Fluid Architecture - Week 15

Its the end of the project, and this would be my final and last post.

Here are some pictures i took of the model that I did. The site model was laser cut, and the model of the building form is rapid prototyped.

Fluid Architecture - Week 14 - Part D

Today I am working on the fly through videos. Basically I drew a path and I made the camera follow the path. This is to show the perspective of a user walking around my building.

Attempt 01

This video had some problems with the lighting. So i need to put more lighting into the site.

Attempt 02

The main problem that I am facing is that, while the camera moves the camera is becomes a bit shaky, since its following the hand drawn line. I need to try to draw the line more precisely.

Attempt 03

Final Video.
For the final video, I combined the attempt 02 video and the attempt 03 video togather, and put some music behind it. It did not come out as good as i expected, as the while the camera moves along the path, it becomes very shaky.

Fluid Architecture - Week 14 - Part C

I made a few changes on the floor plans. I added more furniture and showed a bit of space planning. I also worked on a sectional cut through the building. The section was a bit complicated because, some of the parts of the building had different thickness's and they kept twisting at certain points. However I cut the sections using the cross section method in blender which helped a lot to make it more accurate.

Today I worked on the A1 presentation board, which includes the design process, the floor plans, section and the renders of the building.

Fluid Architecture - Week 14 - Part B

Today I am working on rendering images of the building. I rendered the images using blender and then used photoshop to to do the interiors. I also added the background of the site in using Photoshop.

Fluid Architecture - Week 14

Its less than two weeks left for the presentation. So to plan out my presentation, and the stuff that I am going to put into the presentation, I made something like a plan. This plan will help me to get organised, and finish my work on time.

My Plan

Introduction
VIDEOS PLAYING
At the beginning of the assignment, i did various experiments on my folie. This included fluid experiments and emission of particles and hair experiments using force fields.
So as to begin with the project, to create a form which would be used as a mass for my model, I used force fields to generate different hair particles.
SITE – FROM WHERE THE FORCE FIELDS WERE GENERATED.
1st- Initially the force fields were placed two force fields on the land; towards CBD and New Farm.
one on the bridge connecting the fortitude valley and kangaroo point: high traffic
SITE- MOVED FORCE FIELDS
Then I moved the force fields to one towards the new farm,  and one onto the river as seen on the sketches.

VIDEO OF EXPERIMENT 3
This is a video of how I did it, this will show how the form of the hair particles changes, when the force fields are moved around from CBD to new farm to the river.

SKETCHES  HOW THE FORM WAS MODIFIED.
so after the form was derived, I modified it by rotating one of the faces to create a cantilevered roof structure.

INITIAL FORM PICTURE ON SITE.
So after the form was created, I moved on to create the spaces inside the building. Basically the whole building will be functioning as a public building. So I wanted to create as much as openings, so that people who passes the building will also come to know about whats happening inside.
So I created solid wireframes on the cantilevered part of the roof, so that when the roof is touching the ground, it creates a transitional space like a pavilion.

TRANSITIONAL SPACE – THE CANTILEVER
PICTURE OF THE TOP VIEW HOW PEOPLE CAN ENTER AND EXIT THE BUILDING EXPLAINING THE TRANSITIONAL SPACE.
I also did a cloth experiment, which shows how the people will pass through this transitional space. The cloth is generated from the direction where most people will be accessing the site.
EXPERIMENT OF THE CLOTH.

FLY THROUGH

Another reason was that, the whole structure is going to be made out of concrete. So its structure will be very heavy, and the cantilevered roof may not work out structurally. Now that its a frame, its more light weight and will be structurally more stable.

I also created wireframes on other parts of the buildings, including the side walls. Apart from being open to the surrounding, it also creates shadow and light patterns on the ground, once again linking the context with the building.

FLY THROUGH

TSUNAMI EXPERIMENT.
I tried on experiments to work out how the building will respond to a wave, this is a tsunami wave experiment. This kind of gives the basic impression on what happens to the building, when a wave of two different intensities hit the building.

The public spaces that are incorporated into this building are, commercial spaces, community spaces and an outdoor space.
The commercial space will be a coffee shop, which will be partially open.

THE SECOND FLOOR is an office space and a exibition space.

As for the outdoor area, I am creating a roof garden, with grass on it where people can walk upto. I created grass on the roof, also using the hair particle system.
This screen cast will show how I did it.
And these are the end results.

This is just a summary of how my presentation will be layed out.

Anyhow going back to the actual work that needs to be done; I worked on floor plans today.

Fluid Architecture - Week 13

Today I am working on generating floor plans using the new form to work out the spaces within the building.
What I am doing is, I made crossections through the new form and exported them to autocad as dxf files.

Fluid Architecture - Week 12

Today what I am working on is editing the form a bit. I removed the walls, and I am rotating the right side of the building in such a way that the structure forms the wall and the roof itself. But I am maintaining the walls made on the left side of the form.

Il post some pictures of how it looked before and how it is changed now.

Before
After

So basically, what I have done here is that, I rotated the overhang in BLUE in such a way that it sits on the ground. This way it also creates an opening fo the people to enter into the spaces. It also acts both as a OVERHANG CREATING AN INTERIOR SPACE, rather than an overhang creating an outdoor space.

ENTRANCES
So by rotating the overhang, I have created two entrances, where people can come in and go out of the building from two sides. It also acts as a pavillion kind of a place or a TRANSITIONAL spaces where people can move through the building spaces.

Entrance 1
Entrance 2

From both the pictures you can see how the overhang is now supported by the ground.

ROOF GARDENS
I also worked on making grass on the roof, to create a roof garden which will act as an outdoor area where people can walk upto.
Here is the process how I did it.

I tried to render the images, but the file seems too big because of the grass.. So what I will do is, try to create the grass on half of the roof so that the file will be a bit smaller.
